Teen Doc Shop 2016
March 5, March 12 and Beyond...
A Filmmaking Project in Three Parts
Part 2: The workShop
A documentary filmmaking workshop on Saturday, March 12, 10:00am-5:00pm, at ArtHaus, Decorah, in which the teens participating in the project will learn the basics of documentary filmmaking, meet with their local professional filmmaker/videographer mentor, and plan their portion of the documentary.
Each group of teens will choose a teenaged subject, film an interview with that subject, and film additional footage that will enable them to tell their subject’s story. These stories will then be edited into a feature-length documentary about teens in and around Decorah, made by Decorah-area teens.
Filming dates and times TBD by each group. Expect approximately 3-4 hours total for filming between March 13 - April 17.
Part 1: Films for Teens at OFF
A teen focused film set at the Oneota Film Festival on March 5. The films will include THE MASK YOU LIVE IN and ON BEAUTY and feature critical issues facing teens and their families.
Check in Valders Hall, Luther College: Anytime before 12:30pm on Saturday, March 5.
Lunch with filmmakers: 12:30-1:30pm. This luncheon is for the teens and several other filmmakers in attendance at the festival (not just filmmakers from the films included in the teen set).
Teen Film Set: 1:30pm-4:00pm, Olin 102. The screenings will be followed by a q & a with the filmmakers
The Mask You Live In
Part 3: The Doc
The completed documentary will be presented in a Blue Carpet premiere event at Arthaus (508 W Water) in downtown Decorah on April 25, 2016. The event will include a q & a with the teen filmmakers and, potentially, some of the teens featured in the documentary after the screening. The finished film will be made available to area schools and organizations for additional programming, and screened at the 2017 Oneota Film Festival.
